Getting To Know You

jenga style blocks without writing on them for start of the game

I call this one “Getting to Know You.”  Almost everyone loves it when someone takes an interest in them and asks fun, engaging questions, and kids are no exception! I find that kids especially enjoy talking about the things they love. This Jenga-style game is a ton of fun for both kids and the adults who play with them.

Here’s how it works: Start with Jenga-style blocks—blocks without any writing on them (yet!). On one side of each block, write a question like, “What’s your favorite color?” (or animal, holiday, shape, etc.). You can also try questions like “Do you prefer the beach or the snow?” (or bikes vs. skateboards, cake vs. ice cream, day vs. night, etc.). You can even ask, “How do you feel today?” These questions get kids engaged and excited to share!

Then, flip the block over and write an activity on the other side. These can be simple exercises like jump 10x, stand on one leg, plank, or do 10 wall push-ups. This way, not only are you getting them to talk, but you're also getting them moving!

Set the blocks up Jenga-style and let the fun begin! For a twist, you can place the blocks in a bag and let the kids pull out a surprise block.  Here are some of the questions and exercises that I use:
